Edgefield man escapes arrest, leaves jacket and drugs behind

web posted February 5, 2010
EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield man evaded arrest after an attempt to apprehend him went awry Thursday afternoon by Edgefield Police. Tyler Broadwater, 19, of Edgefield, was spotted after he ordered his lunch at the Edgefield Billiard Parlor on the Town Square. An Edgefield Police Officer asked Broadwater to step outside and when informed he was under arrest he fought with the officer and escaped prompting a manhunt for several hours.

Broadwater has a warrant for his arrest for entering an Eastview Road home without permission on January 21. After being informed of his arrest, he and the police officer “tussled” and he “came out of his jacket” and fled on foot across the town square and fled down the alley by the Edgefield Library.

As Edgefield Police and Sheriff’s Deputies converged on the area he was reported being seen running across the yards of several home sites including that of the Mayor.

When police searched the jacket he was wearing at the time of his attempted arrest, left behind in his escape, they found a quantity of marijuana adding to the charges he now faces in addition to the felony resisting arrest.

Anyone with information of Broadwater’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337. You do not need to provide your identity to provide information.
