Trenton Man Charged in Molestation of 8 Year Old
web posted February 5, 2013
EDGEFIELD – A Trenton man has
been
arrested and remains behind bars after his arrest on Friday on charges
of molesting a young girl over several years that started when she was
8. Benson Lee Dunbar, 54, of Woodyard Road, was taken into custody
following an investigation that was launched in January.
According to information on the case gathered by Edgefield Daily, the
young girl told investigators the abuse went on for years, but she
never told anyone about it until she was an adult. It was only when she
learned that Dunbar may be abusing other children that she came forward
to tell of the abuse she endured over the years.
Edgefield County Sheriff's Investigators are continuing their
investigation, but once enough evidence was collected to obtain a
warrant in the woman's case, Dunbar was arrested.
Dunbar is being held without bond on a charge of criminal sexual
conduct in the first degree on a child under 11 by the Edgefield County
Magistrate's Office. Dunbar will have another bond hearing before a
Circuit Court Judge at a later date.
With the ongoing investigation and the seriousness of the charge, it is
expected Dunbar will be denied bond in General Sessions Court.
Additional charges could be filed after the full investigation has been
completed.
This marks the fourth arrest for unrelated criminal sexual conduct
crimes in the past 30 days in Edgefield County.
Most recently Gamil Lamont Lopez, 31, a teacher's aide at Thurmond, was
charged for having
sex with a student.
A week earlier, Jacob Cody Quattlebaum, 21, of Edgefield was charged
with having
sex with a 15-year-old girl.
The week prior, Larry C. Robinson, 59, of Johnston, was charged after
Johnston Police located him at the home of his teenage victim from an
arrest last year. He now faces additional
charges in the case.
