“We hosted our first Cabaret Night in November, and it was very
well-received,” said
concert organizer Tony Baughman. “We had a standing-room-only crowd,
and I made the decision then to do my best to bring at least one live
concert to Edgefield per month. So I have begun enlisting some of my
friends in the music business to come to the Discovery Center to
perform.”
A former student of jazz legends Pat Martino and Jaco Pastorius, Mike
Frost is a life-long composer and live performer. He has released has
three CDs – “Frosty Christmas” (2012), "Riddle Me This" (2011) and
"Live At The Blue Horse” (2011) – and he has recorded and performed
with a long list of high-profile musicians including Jimmy Bruno, Jesse
Colin Young, Esteban, New York Voices, The Gypsy Kings,
David Mann (Tower of Power), Manolo Badrena (Weather Report), Todd
Turkisher (David Byrne, Ute Lemper), John Scarpulla (Tower of Power,
Bruce Springsteen), John Miceli (Meatloaf), George Cintron (Leslie
West, Blue Oyster Cult), and Ken Talve.
Lauren Meccia is known for her soaring vocal performance and
incorporation of the EWI (Electric Wind Instrument) into her live
performances. She is the director of instrumental ensembles at the
University of South Carolina Aiken including the University Wind
Ensemble, Jazz Band, and the Pacer Pulse Athletic Band. She is soprano
saxophonist of the award-winning Assembly Saxophone Quartet, and
traveled with the quartet to St. Andrews, Scotland for a performance at
the World Saxophone Congress XVI in 2012. She appeared as guest soloist
with the Minot Symphony Orchestra and the Florence Symphony Orchestra
in May 2011.
Mike and Lauren will be joined on-stage by keyboardist David Brown and
drummer Mike West.
“This is going to be a great date-night, especially during Valentine's
weekend,” Baughman said. “Bring your sweetheart and enjoy some of the
finest smooth jazz to be found anywhere. I promise you'll have more
than one chance to get close and dance real slow.”
