Edgefield man threatens officers during arrest

web posted February 8, 2007

EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield man with a warrant for his arrest on a charge for shoplifting made matters worse on Tuesday afternoon when Edgefield Police located him at an Edgefield laundry mat. Police arrived and saw Earl Deandra Cook, 21, sitting in the passenger seat of a car in the parking lot and advised him he was under arrest and to step out of the car. Mr. Cook allegedly replied, “(expletive) you, go get the warrant.”

At that time the two Edgefield Police Officers drew their tasers and informed Mr. Cook to exit the vehicle and not to run or he would be tased. Cook finally complied and then began to threaten both officers with bodily harm. According to police reports Mr. Cook continued to threaten the officers at one point telling them, “If ya’ll don’t put those tasers away I’ll (expletive) ya’ll up”.

Even after being taken into custody Mr. Cook is alleged to have told the officers that he would be getting out of jail and alluded to following through with his threats.

Mr. Cook was transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center and booked on the warrant for shoplifting and was being held pending the issuance of a warrant for threatening a Public Official on Wednesday.
