Calliham TV and Appliance to be sold on Courthouse steps March 5

web posted February 19, 2009
EDGEFIELD – If there was any doubt to the veracity of our report on the foreclosure and public sale of the Calliham TV and Appliance Store and other property all doubt has now been removed. The official public sale announcement was published on Wednesday in the Edgefield Advertiser. The public auction of the properties will take place on Thursday, March 5, at 11 am.

As EdgefieldDaily.com reported earlier, Fletcher F. Lawrence Jr. of Greenwood has foreclosed on several properties owned by J. P. (James) Calliham in addition to the property where the family owned appliance and furniture store has operated for half a century.

The properties to be put up for sale include properties on Country Club Road, Butler Street, Addison Street, as well as the store property on Penn Street.

The county sought to purchase the Penn Street property for $425,000 to expand county offices and the future expansion of the Sheriff’s Office and County Jail which is adjacent to the property. The Edgefield County Council voted in January to withdraw their offer to buy the property citing problems with obtaining a clear title.

It is unknown if Edgefield County will participate in the expected sale of the desired property.

A copy of the decree can be found here.
