Mount Vintage cleans up on Sweetwater Road, literally
web posted February 23, 2006

EDGEFIELD – Being a good neighbor generally means looking out for your neighbor’s property when they are gone and if you see some trash thrown on in their yard you will walk over and pick it up. This week Mount Vintage played the part of the good neighbor, and then some.

During the cold rainy days this week, workers of Mount Vintage picked up garbage along Sweetwater Road. Not just along the boundaries of Mount Vintage, but their neighbor’s property too. In fact, if you drive down Sweetwater Road, at least for now, it is what you do not see, trash, that makes it a pleasant drive. Moreover, when we say along Sweetwater Road we mean all 15 miles of it.

Mount Vintage Developer Bettis Rainsford said, “It was beginning to look very bad,” along the road. Mr. Rainsford said he hoped that the roadway will stay that way for a while, “I hope now that the Sheriff has taken over the litter (control) that maybe he can do more with it.”  Sheriff Dobey took over litter control from the County Administrator in the December 6, 2005 County Council meeting.

As nice as it is to see the Sweetwater Road with no trash, reality hits you as soon as you turn off Sweetwater Road and notice the amount of trash that plagues so much of the county on other roads.

EdgefieldDaily.com just wonders why someone would throw in your yard things they would not throw in their own.
