North Carolina woman injured in crash near Edgefield Saturday
web
posted February 25, 2008
EDGEFIELD – A North
Carolina woman was
injured in a single car crash Saturday morning just outside of
Edgefield. The crash occurred just after 8 am when the woman’s Dodge
Intrepid left the roadway and slammed into a group of trees.
According to information obtained at the scene the woman was traveling
northbound on Highway 25 near Rabbit Trail when the woman claims
something ran out in front of her causing her to swerve and then lose
control on the rain slick highway.
The car spun and
left the southbound side of the road before striking a
culvert and then several trees along the side of the highway. The woman
was found lying on the passenger side of the car in the floorboard.
Police used a slim-jim to open the locked doors. Edgefield County EMS
and Edgefield Firefighters removed the woman from the car and
immobilized her on a backboard.
She was transported to the MCG Trauma Unit in Augusta for treatment of
her injuries, which were not considered serious. The woman told police
that she was wearing her seatbelt when she lost control of the car,
however, removed the restraining device as she was spinning across the
highway.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and a
charge is pending against the driver. The crash slowed traffic on the
highway for over and hour.
