Woman Arrested for DUI after Striking Child on Bike

web posted March 1, 2013

EDGEFIELD – A Hilton Head woman has been arrested after Edgefield Police and EMS were called to a report of a driver striking a child on a bicycle on Jeter Street Thursday evening. The 12-year-old boy suffered only minor injuries and was not transported from the scene. The driver of the truck, Karol Denise Keller, 54, of Hilton Head, was transported - to the Edgefield County Detention Center and booked into custody.

Keller is said to have been traveling west on Jeter Street approaching the 4-way-stop when she encountered a group of children on the side on the road, striking one boy on his bicycle.

Edgefield Police arrived and began their investigation, during which they discovered an open container of "Loco" beer in the floorboard. Keller was taken into custody and was given a breathalyzer test showing a .08 alcohol content.

She has been charged with DUI and open container.

The group of children gave police a different version of how the collision took place than Ms. Keller.

No court date was available at the time of this report. Keller will have a bond hearing Friday morning.
