CAPTURED: Edgefield County’s Most Wanted man captured in Florida

web posted March 3, 2010
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield County’s Most Wanted man, Edward Fargo McKenzie, 25, wanted for two counts of attempted murder and a General Sessions Court bench warrant on an armed robbery charge is in jail in Palm Beach, Florida, Johnston Police Chief Chris Aston said Tuesday.

“We’ve already been in touch with them and are waiting to see what charges they have on him in Florida,” Chief Aston said, adding that McKenzie will be extradited to face charges of armed robbery by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office, and two charges of assault and battery with the intent to kill by Edgefield Police Department and Johnston Police Department respectively.

Edgefield Police Chief Ronnie Carter said McKenzie was found to be in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest that reportedly was stolen out of Aiken County. It is unknown if the gun recovered is the same used in the shooting incidents in Edgefield County.

Chief Aston said the cost of bringing McKenzie back to Edgefield County would be shared by the three law enforcement agencies. “We’re trying to work that out, but right now we’re really trying to get an idea of when we can go get him.”

McKenzie is wanted for a shooting at the Edgewood Apartments on August 15, 2009 in an armed robbery that left the victim critically injured.

Johnston Police also has warrants for McKenzie’s arrest that stem from a shooting at the May Street Apartments on August 13, 2009. No one was injured in that incident.

In October of 2008 he was arrested by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office in connection to an early morning armed robbery that took place in Trenton in late July. McKenzie and four others, including a juvenile, were charged in the robbery and are awaiting trial. McKenzie was out on bond from that incident when the other crimes took place and he fled the area.
