Burglar hits Edgefield storage units
web
posted March 10, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield Police were called
to the Edgefield Mini Storage on Augusta Road Monday afternoon when it
was discovered that several storage units had been burglarized. When
police arrived the investigation showed a total of five units had
either been entered or had the locks tampered with in an effort to gain
entry.
The owner of one of the rented storage units arrived and stated several
items were missing including two cookers, a big screen TV, a hand truck
and assorted other items were missing or had been moved. The value of
the stolen items totaled several hundred dollars.
A nearby unit had also been entered but the property owner could not be
located. It appeared that items had been thrown about but it was
unknown what, if anything, was missing. A third property arrived and
said the items in their storage unit belonged to their daughter so they
were unable to list any specific items that may have been taken. The
daughter will meet with police on Tuesday to take an inventory.
At least one other unit was entered and a fifth had the lock broken but
access was not gained to the storage unit.
Evidence was collected on the scene which was sporadic throughout the
storage units locations on the lot. The investigation is ongoing.
