Three charged in drug raid

web posted March 14, 2007

EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Special Response Team and Narcotics Division Investigators executed a search warrant Friday at a home on the 300 block of Gary Hill Road. Narcotics Investigators seized $461.61 in cash and between 28 and 35 grams of marijuana packaged in multiple plastic baggies from the home.

Shawn Antrell Lee, 28, of 307 Gary Hill Road, and James Jayelle Koon, 23, of 701 Augusta Road were arrested at the scene and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. Laterria Shavonne Herrin, 28, also of 301 Gary Hill Road turned herself in to authorities the next day. Herrin and Lee have two small children ages 9 and 11 who were also in the home at the time of the raid.

Herrin and Lee have also been charged with one county each of a person in charge placing a child at risk of harm. The Department of Social Services took possession of the children. Mr. Koon was also charged with an outstanding Magistrate Court bench warrant that had been issued for his arrest.

All three charged in the case are still being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center. Mr. Lee is being held on a $25,000 surety bond, Mr. Koon was being held on a $5,000 bond and outstanding charges, and Ms. Herrin is being held on a $15,000 bond.

No court date was provided. The case is still under investigation at this time. The arrests stem from ongoing narcotics investigations in the county.
