Large Tree Knocks Out Power to Edgefield

web posted March 14, 2013

EDGEFIELD – A large tree falling across main power lines on Buncombe Street just before 1 am knocked out power to most of Edgefield including the Sheriff's Dispatch, which was operating off of emergency power back-up. At least one power pole was down blocking the street and others were reported bending as power lines began snapping and arcing from Brooks Street to the Courthouse Square.

Details on the incident are limited at this time. Power is expected to be out for hours as SCE&G crews repair the downed power poles and broken power lines.

Edgefield police and firefighters blocked off all traffic through the area with the assistance of Sheriff's Deputies. At this time it is unknown how broad the power outage is in the town, however; one officer reported the entire town without power.
