4th Annual Shamrock Run draws hundreds to Edgefield

web posted March 15, 2010
EDGEFIELD – The Town of Edgefield was dressed in green Saturday for the 4th Annual Shamrock Run with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the high 50’s and nearly 150 participants gathering at the starting line. The 2.4 miles race started at 11 am and just 11 minutes and 39 seconds later Larry Evans (Left), of Augusta, Georgia, crossed the finish line. Evans took third in the event last year.

Orinthal Striggles took second place. Local favorite,
Trent Miller (Left) of Edgefield, took top honors as first high school student and finished third over all. Miller placed fourth last year and fifth in 2008 at the age of 13. “He’s going to win it next year,” one onlooker said shortly after Miller crossed the finish line.

The top Law Enforcement officer to cross the finish line was Sgt. Roosevelt Young of the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office (Below) who finished in the top 15 of all runners.

Kerry Klein, who founded and organizes the race, was
very pleased with the sunny skies and mild temperatures. “The weather is perfect,” she said, adding that the number of participants was a record. Official timekeepers said around 120 runners or walkers pre-reregistered with between 20 and 30 registering the day of the race.

Official times and placements of all winners were not available Sunday afternoon and will be published once released.

The race proceeds are going to the American Heart Association in memory of retired State Trooper Jeff Daniels, of Edgefield, who passed away last year.
