Adios Amigos – Two set for deportation after conviction of weapons
charges
web
posted March 17, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Two illegal aliens will be
greeting family and friends in their native country of Mexico after
pleading guilty to weapons charges in General Session Court last week.
Jose Luis Rodrigues Resendiz, 27, and Fermin Labra Lopez, 25, plead
guilty to possession of illegal weapons from a December 2007 arrest.
The arrests came after a Department of Natural Resources Officer
notified the Sheriff’s Office he found nearly a dozen Hispanic males
shooting automatic weapons at a rural location.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the
Beaver Dam Shooting Range on Sunday
December 16 and found nine Hispanic men with a vast assortment of
weapons including reportedly a fully automatic AK-47 assault rifle.
Recovered
at the time of their arrest were two Ruger 10/22 .22 caliber
rifles, one Savage .22 caliber rifle, one 12-gauge single shot shotgun,
one Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, one Beretta .22 caliber pistol, one
Smith and Wesson .22 caliber pistol, one C2 9mm pistol, one AK-47
rifle, and one .177 caliber air rifle.
Also arrested at the time was Joel Rivera Smith, 26, for public drunk
and Arturo Alexander Rivera Guzman, 26, was found to have a warrant for
his arrest from immigration officials.
Assistant Solicitor Irvin May said the two men would be picked up by
immigration officials and deported. Due to the men being charged with
weapons violations it is not believed they will have to face
deportation hearings before being sent to their country of origin.
Both men were advised through an interpreter that if they returned to
the United States they would face Federal charges.
