Edgefield Birthday Bash well attended
web
posted March 22, 2010
EDGEFIELD – The
Edgefield 225th Birthday
Bash was held Saturday night at the Town Gym with close to 200 people
attending the party and dance. The Keys West Band provided the
entertainment for the evening, several local restaurants and businesses
donated the food, and, what birthday party would be complete without a
huge birthday cake to be shared by all.
Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham said he was very pleased with the turnout
and applauded the efforts of the business owners that make up the
Edgefield Community Development Association, which sponsored the event.
“The merchants worked hard, and Becky Turner, I’m going to give her
special recognition tonight,” the Mayor said, adding that she has put
forth the extra measure of participation. “She’s been unbelievable.”
“I think it’s a great opportunity to pull the communities together,”
Durham said, noting there were people from across the county, “not just
Edgefield.”
Becky Turner was just as excited. “It’s been so much fun doing it and I
think it’s going really well,” she said. “Of course this is just the
start of the year long celebration. Next is you (Edgefield Daily’s
editor) being dunked in the dunking booth.” She said that should make
the ECDA a lot of money and thanked the editor for volunteering as one
of the “dunkees” and for paying for the rental of the dunking booth.
ECDA Chairwoman Sharon Nunnamaker expressed her gratitude to all of the
members that made the event possible and for those in the community
that attended. “We’ve ha d a good turnout. We sold over 100 tickets in
advance,” she said. An equal number is believed to have attended by
purchasing tickets at the door.
”This is the start of a year-long event. The next will be in May, a
Family Fun Day on the Square and a Founders Day picnic on Slade’s Lake
around the 4th of July,” Mrs. Nunnamaker said. “Everything we do this
year will be celebrating 225 years.”
