Friends of the Edgefield County Public Library membership drive underway
web
posted March 22, 2010
EDGEFIELD – The annual membership drive
for Friends of the Edgefield County Public Library is underway. Please
sign up at the library to support the ongoing efforts of the Friends to
enhance your public library’s service to the community. This is
your library – and it includes the branch libraries in Johnston and
Trenton as well as the library on the town square in Edgefield.
Some of the activities at the Edgefield library just since the fall
have included a Starbooks coffee klatch and karaoke evening in October;
a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving event and a Turkey Trivia contest in
November; a program featuring the Polar Express and a family gaming
night in December, including three movies and a Santa workshop; ongoing
meetings of the American Girl Book Club; a screening of the Michael
Jackson movie, “This Is It;” an event featuring Yertle the Turtle; and
an especially successful Guitar Hero contest.
The Library has initiated an adult book club, the first book for which
will be the popular The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Meetings will be held the second Monday of each month. While
you’re signing up for your membership in the Friends, you may want to
sign up for the book club too – or vice versa!
May will see the Library filled with princesses. Friends of the Library
and First Steps are joining forces to put on a “Breakfast with the
Princess” event to raise money for the two organizations. Watch for the
date in the paper and bring your daughter or your granddaughter to the
library for a pancake and sausage breakfast and the chance to meet a
real princess.
So as you can see, the Library has lots going on. Your support helps
make these programs possible, not to mention the basic Library
services: internet access, WiFi connection, books, magazines, DVDs,
something to meet every literary, school, and research need. Become a
Friend for only $25 and join us to help keep reading and writing alive
and well in Edgefield County.
