Reported disturbance leads to arrest of alleged shoplifter

Mr. Donavan (far right) is taken into custody
EDGEFIELD – A report
of a disturbance on
Eastview Road in Edgefield led to the arrest of a wanted man after
Sheriff’s Deputies made a traffic stop of a suspect vehicle on Columbia
Road just after 1 pm Tuesday. The Eastview Road woman called the
Sheriff’s Office to report at least one man on her property causing
problems and gave a description of the vehicle he left in with two
other men.
A Sheriff’s Investigator spotted the car a short distance away and
stopped the vehicle as other deputies converged on the scene.
As officers began identifying the three men, Donavon Patton, 19, was
found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest by the Edgefield
Police Department for a shoplifting charge. He was placed under arrest
and transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center for booking.
He was released Tuesday afternoon on a $450 bond.
A second man, who was thought to be wanted on another warrant, was
later released after it was discovered the warrant was actually issued
for his father who had the same name.
The driver of the vehicle was cleared at the scene and allowed to
continue on his way.
