Sexual Assault Charges Dropped after Suspect Dies

web posted April 9, 2014

EDGEFIELD Charges against 47-year-old Jackie Garlington, who was arrested after sexually assaulting a heavy sedated 71-year-old woman at a local nursing home in December, have been dropped. Garlington was in rehab at the center at the time of the assault and was caught in the act by one of the nurses. The case drew the ire of many as Garlington was arrested, booked, then released and placed back to the same facility with his victim.

According to information obtained on Tuesday, Garlington was later transferred to a facility in Spartanburg where he later suffered a second stroke and died in January.  As such, the charges against him have been dropped and the case closed.

It was also learned Garlington's victim has also died.

Though Garlington will never face a trial by a jury of his peers, he will face the ultimate in judgment where he cannot escape the actions of his life.
