Two teens charged in sexual assault of 14-year-old Edgefield girl

web posted April 11, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Two teens have been arrested and are currently being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia following a sexual assault on a 14-year-old Edgefield girl Wednesday afternoon. The girl was at home alone when three teenage boys arrived at the home and she allowed them to come inside to play cards.

After playing cards two of the boys, a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old, took the girl to another room and began holding her down forcing her to perform sexual acts, including intercourse, incident reports state.

After hearing the girl crying the third teen, a 17-year-old, entered and made the other two boys to stop and they left the scene. The girl contacted her mother who then notified the Sheriff’s Office. When the first deputy arrived he found the girl crying and upset and on the phone with her older brother. Additional deputies and Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran arrived on the scene and began interviewing the girl and her mother.

Once the identities of the three teen boys were discovered deputies went to the homes nearby and had the parents bring the boys to the Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed. During the course of the investigation the two boys involved in the assault were identified and taken into custody, Chief Investigator Doran said. “They’re being charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct.”

One of the boys, the 15-year-old, was a neighbor and the 14-year-old is from Aiken. Their identities have not been released due to their ages. The 17-year-old was not charged in the incident. “His story matched up to what the girl was telling us,” Investigator Doran said, “He was the one that stopped it (the attack).”

A Family Court hearing is expected to be held later this month regarding the charges.
