EDGEFIELD – The first annual Edgefield County Hospital Relay for Life Poker run was held Saturday raising $1,131 for cancer research. The event was sponsored by the Edgefield County Hospital and was the scene of the start and ending point of the “poker run” where riders go to various locations and receive a card and try to make the best poker hand by the end of the ride.

Kelvin Thomas, Sean Kelly, and Alison Diamond helped organize the event.  Sponsors included the Edgefield County Hospital, Edgefield Medical Clinic, W. Hugh Morgan Family Practice, Linda Ely Graphic Design, Hardtail Custom Cycles, Pendarvis Chevrolet, Yonce Ford, Mims Package store, National Wild Turkey Federation, Augusta Triumph/Dicati, Aiken Motorcycle Sales and Service. Fairway Food Store provided food and the National Guard provided drinks.

Mac Morgan was awarded $100 for having the “worst hand” and donated the money to Relay for Life. Elvis Williams took top honors for the best poker hand and walked away with the $300 prize.

The organizers are already preparing for next year’s event.
