  Fire at Edgefield Federal Prison contained to “industrial oven” web posted April 29, 2010 EDGEFIELD – A fire at the Edgefield Federal Prison around 3:30 am Wednesday brought the Edgefield Fire Department to the facility after smoke was reported coming from the Food Services Department. William Mackelburg, Public Information Officer for the Prison, said the smoke was found to be coming from burning food in an “industrial oven”. The Edgefield Fire Department assessed the scene and the damage was limited to the oven itself. The fire never spread to any surrounding areas and was quickly contained. “At no time, was there a threat to the local community,” Mr. Mackelburg said.
