Discovery Center to Host Tea Fundraiser

web posted April 29, 2010
EDGEFIELD – It is tea time at the Freshwater Coast Discovery Center during Brunch Fit for a Tea on Saturday, May 22 from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Ladies will dine on the front porch of the center from a menu of authentic tea refreshments while being entertained by Jane Jenkins Herlong. A native of Edgefield, Herlong is an award winning public speaker with extensive experience in the field. Original floral decorations will be provided by Petal Pushers and available for purchase.

Tickets are $25 and are offered by reservation on or before May 18 by calling the Discovery Center at (803) 637-0877 or emailing mailto:edgefielddc@scprt.com. The cost includes one choice of two books by Lisa Bolt Richards, a Certified Tea Expert from Georgia. Both books venture into the history of tea as well as original recipes and photography. All proceeds will go towards educational programming at the center.

The Brunch Fit for a Tea coincides appropriately with the “First Flush” of tea, which is the beginning of the growing season each spring. For more information on First Flush, visit http://www.charlestonteaplantation.com.

Through interpretive exhibits, historical information, a gift shop of local artists, and a rotating exhibit space, the Freshwater Coast Discovery of the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor shares the heritage of Edgefield, McCormick, Abbeville, Greenwood and Saluda counties. The center is located at 405 Main Street in Edgefield, and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission is free. For more information on the SC National Heritage Corridor visit http://www.sc-heritagecorridor.org.
