Edgefield Ranked #2 as Safest Cities in SC

web posted May 9, 2014

EDGEFIELD Ė Although Edgefield is not a city by definition, it was ranked as the number 2 safest "city" in the State according to SafeWise.com in an article published on May 5, 2014. "There are plenty of reasons why South Carolina is one of the nationís most popular states to move to. From the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to inviting sandy beaches, South Carolina offers a welcoming landscape, competitive wages and affordable living," the website promotes. But being safe is number one.

In order to be included in the listing a "city" had to have a population of 2,000 or more, which includes a lot of towns, Edgefield included.

"Established in 1775 youíll find dozens of historic buildings in Edgefield, many of which have the distinction of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. But donít be fooled into thinking Edgefield is stuck in the past. The community brings citizens together for a diverse assortment of events, including the popular Sandy Oaks Rodeo and a slew of art events. Thatís because Edgefield offers a booming artisan community and is a notorious pottery hub," the website states in their description.

According to their rankings, the rate of two crime classifications used were:
Violent Crimes Per 1,000: 3.57
Property Crimes Per 1,000: 15.96

Tega Clay took the number one slot and Mount Pleasant came in third behind Edgefield.
