Edgefield teen fights off rapist
web
posted May 15, 2010
EDGEFIELD – What was first believed to
have been a possible carjacking on
Mims Street in Edgefield late
Thursday night turned out to be an attempted rape of an Edgefield
teenager. Edgefield Police were unable to locate the suspect, described
as a “large build” black male standing about 6 feet tall, dressed in
all black, with a mustache and a goatee. He was wearing black gloves at
the time of the attack.
The attack took place on Mims Street as the teen was returning from
visiting a friend in the hospital. As she turned onto Mims Street the
man exited the woods and fell in the street making her believe she had
struck the man. When she stopped to check on the man he grabbed her by
her dress and attempted to rape her.
She fought off her attacker and ran down the street seeking help and a
passing motorist came to her aid and took her to the Edgefield Police
Department. EMS was called to the office and the teen was transported
to Aiken Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the
attack.
The crime scene was roped off and the Sheriff’s Bloodhound Team arrived
and tracked the man but was unable to locate him. Sheriff’s Deputies
and Johnston Police also arrived on the scene and searched
unsuccessfully for the man.
The teen’s car was towed to the Edgefield Police Department for
processing of evidence.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Edgefield County Dispatch
Office at 803-637-5337.
