He’s Back! Man steals wallet and credit cards, racks up $1,000 in
purchases
web
posted May 22, 2010
EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Office is asking the public’s help to identify a man they claim is
responsible for the theft of a woman’s wallet while she was at work on
Thursday and charged almost $1,000 in merchandise before the credit
cards were cut off. “We believe it’s the same guy that stole the wallet
from the Edgefield County Hospital,” Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy
Doran said.
In like fashion, the man, reported as a black male approximately 6 feet
tall between the ages of 35 and 45 years of age with a mustache, was
lingering around the Wild Turkey Federation Museum Thursday morning
before leaving. It was not until the woman’s bank called to report that
there were several charges being made to her credit cards in the North
Augusta and Aiken area that the theft was discovered.
Inv. Doran said the man made the first
purchase at the Food Lion in
North Augusta around 11 am Thursday before heading towards Aiken. The
man purchased Marlboro and Newport cigarettes in large quantities along
with several other items.
From there the man traveled to a Food Lion store in Aiken, Wal-Mart,
and the Warrenville Supermarket making similar purchases before the
cards were deactivated. In all, Inv. Doran said, the man was able to
run up around $1,000 in purchases.
Video surveillance footage confirmed that the man using the woman’s
card on Thursday matched that of the suspect wanted in connection to a
similar theft at the Edgefield County Hospital on April 30. That case
is currently under investigation by the Edgefield Police Department.
“He was wearing the same (white with thin stripes) shirt and white
hat,” Sheriff’s Investigator Jimmy Smith said.
Inv. Doran said the suspect most likely lives in the area and they hope
someone will call to give them the man’s name. “Somebody knows who he
is,” Inv. Doran said.
No vehicle description was available in the Sheriff’s Investigation,
although the Edgefield Police Department said the suspect might be
driving a white newer model Chrysler 300.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. You may remain anonymous while
providing information.
A man fitting the same description is wanted in Columbia County,
Georgia in connection to three similar crimes there.
