Storm Pummels Edgefield and Trenton

web posted May 26, 2014

EDGEFIELD A very large storm cell crossed into northern Edgefield County Sunday evening around 6 pm dropping large hail and high winds along highway 430 and moving south towards Edgefield. As the storm hit Edgefield, police and Sheriff's Deputies in the area sought shelter at the fire station to ride out the weather. It wasn't until after the storm passed that the damage was found.

Reports of large trees down were reported on highway 430, hwy 378 at Dorn Road, Greenhouse Road and smaller trees down on secondary roads around Edgefield and in several yards. SCE&G was reporting power outages in the area as well. According to their website, there were as many as 200 without power at 8 pm.

SCDOT workers were called out with heavy equipment to remove the large trees blocking the roadways and then to the secondary locations.

Crews were still working to restore power and clear trees at 9 pm.
