Burglar Makes off with $15K in Jewelry and Coins

web posted May 28, 2014

EDGEFIELD A Youngblood Road woman called the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office Monday afternoon after returning home from traveling and discovering she had been robbed while away. There was no mention of forced entry into the home in an incident report released on Tuesday.

The woman reported a number of rings being taken including a size 10 white gold engagement ring with a 3/4 carat diamond ($3,000), size 10 white gold wedding band with a 1 carat "full cut" diamond ($6,000), a size 10 "heavy gold ring" weighing 1.2 ounces ($1,500), a size 10 1 carat diamond cluster ring ($4,000) and a size 10 Onyx ring ($300). The total value of the rings was $14,800.

Also taken were six 1 ounce silver coins valued at $200.

Little or no evidence was collected at the scene, although the victim was able to provide a possible suspect. Neighbors had told her about a subject that has been seen in and around her home while she was gone.

The case has been turned over to the Sheriff's Criminal Investigative Division for further investigation.
