Armed robbers in custody

web posted May 30, 2010 : 10:10 am
EDGEFIELD – Three men accused of robbing the Dodges Store in Edgefield just before 7:30 Sunday morning and leading police on a two-state high speed chase are now in custody, Edgefield County Chief Investigator Randy Doran said. Their identities have not been released at this time. “We should have them back over here (Edgefield County) in about an hour.” The black Pontiac Grand Am the men were in will also be brought back to Edgefield County for processing.

“They (Richmond County) will be getting warrants for their charges,” relating to the chase Inv. Doran said.

Inv. Doran said the three men entered the store with bandanas over their faces and at least one man presented what is believed to be a pump shotgun. The men then left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

Edgefield County Deputies spotted the Grand Am traveling south on Highway 25 approaching the four-lane. Moments later the chase turned back to the northbound lane towards Bettis Academy Road.

The men turned onto Bettis Academy Road heading into Aiken County as the high-speed chase continued onto westbound I-20 where North Augusta Police tried to use stop-sticks to bring the chase to an end unsuccessfully. The chase continued into Richmond County in Georgia where Richmond County Sheriff’s Deputies took over the lead.

The chase continued along Washington Road and other streets where deputies again tried to deploy stop-sticks that took out one of the tires on the car, but the chase continued.

Update: 12:25 pm

Edgefield County Sheriff's Captain Chris Wash said the chase continued back into South Carolina into Beech Island where Aiken County deputies were able to use stop-sticks again and flatten two more tires casing the driver to lose control near Carry Drive and crash into a ditch. The men fled on foot but were all apprehended.

Their identities remain unreleased at this time and were described as only two black males and 16-year-old white male. Capt. Wash said they will be charging the juvenile as an adult but will not releasing his name or photograph until he turns 17 in July.

Capt. Wash said they were unable to recover the guns or guns used in the robbery, however, deputies are searching the area in hopes of locating them.

Edgefield Daily will provide the identities of the men and booking photos once the suspects have been processed.

Update 1:50 pm

Two of the men captured were identified as John Fitzgerald Hall Jr. and Corderall Stallings. The 16-year-old was processed and will be taken to DJJ in Columbia.

The three men are suspected of robbing a Circle-K store in Richmond County about an hour earlier Sunday morning.

Edgefield County Sheriff's Investigators and Deputies are continuing their search for the weapon(s) used in the robberies.
