Local Youth Foundation wins celebrity golf tournament
web
posted June 4, 2009
EDGEFIELD – During
Memorial Day Weekend,
mentors from local area youth foundation, CHOICES-A LifeTime
Development, Inc. participated and were named champions of a celebrity
golf tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida. The actual tournament was
held at the very pristine Indian Spring Country Club in Boynton Beach,
Florida and was named for former NFL great Ottis "OJ" Anderson.
Ottis Jerome "O.J." Anderson (born January 19, 1957 in West Palm Beach,
Florida), is a retired American football running back. He was named the
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press (AP) with the
St. Louis Cardinals in 1979, and the MVP of Super Bowl XXV in 1991 when
playing with the New York Giants. Very interestingly, our guys
from Edgefield learned that OJ Anderson is the Great-Nephew of the
great educator from Aiken, SC , Mrs. Minnie Palmore. Also, it was
stated that OJ Anderson's QB in college, the University of Miami, was
UGA head coach Mark Richt.
The event featured several professional athletes the likes of Abe Elam
of the NY Jets, Anthony Carter formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, Jed
Weaver of the Super Bowl Champion N E Patriots, Darrell Gadsden of the
Atlanta Hawks to name a few. Darrell Gadsden informed mentors
from CHOICES that he lived in Ward, SC for a brief time as a young lad.
The mentors who were deemed champions pictured are (not in order):
Errol Thomas (Team
Coach); Rodney Tillman; Wiley Williams; Timothy Johnson; and Terrence
Cheatham. CHOICES-LTD plans to host in the CSRA area its first
annual scholarship fundraiser golf classic. A date and course
near you will be set and disclosed soon. The tentative
time-frame is Spring 2010. The tournament will feature many
professional athletes and business professionals form far and near
