Driver and Passenger of ATV Arrested on Augusta Road

web posted June 5, 2014

EDGEFIELD Midnight, when traffic is slow, might seem like a good time to take a stolen ATV out for a ride on Augusta Road in Edgefield as you approach Main Street taking your buddy back to his sister's house on Mims Street. Throw in one having drugs and the other an outstanding warrant, what could possibly go wrong?

An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy spotted the pair and made a traffic stop at Gary Street. Edgefield Police also arrived on the scene since it was inside the town limits.

The passenger, Kenneth Thomas, 40, of Aiken, was found to have marijuana and was taken into custody for a simple possession of marijuana charge.

The driver of the blue Honda TRX250 Recon, Tyrone Wakefield Jr., 33, of Edgefield, initially gave a false name to officers. As the investigation continued it was found the ATV had been stolen out of Aiken and was towed from the scene. Wakefield eventually admitted he gave the wrong name as dispatch advised he had an outstanding arrest warrant.

Wakefield racked up a number of charges including receiving stolen goods, operating an uninsured vehicle, false info to police in addition to the bench warrant for failure to appear.
