Edgefield woman car-jacked at Augusta car-wash

web posted June 8, 2007
EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield woman escaped injury in a carjacking that took place midday Thursday at the Top Notch carwash on Washington Road in Richmond County. According to information obtained early in the investigation the woman was at the carwash when a man approached and first initiated a conversation asking for a job at the business. When she informed him she did not work at the business he then made his move to steal the SUV authorities said.

The two were involved in a “scuffle”, police said, and the man then forced her to the ground before taking the gold Yukon and fleeing the scene.

The man, described as a white male wearing a white shirt and khaki pants, was last seen driving the Yukon eastbound on I-20 into South Carolina. The SUV has a South Carolina license plate of 900-NFJ.

A BOLO (be on the look out) was issued by Richmond County authorities to Aiken and Edgefield Counties as well as the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Richmond County authorities said the vehicle had not been recovered by early evening. They could not provide a detailed description of the suspect or confirm if any weapons were involved in the carjacking.

Attempts to locate a phone number for the victim were unsuccessful. The case is currently under investigation.

Anyone with who may have seen the SUV or may have information is asked to call the Augusta-Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1080 or the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337.
