Edgefield Woman Interrupts Burglar

EDGEFIELD A Meeting Street Road woman arrived home after being alerted her alarm was going off shortly before noon Wednesday. When she arrived she found the back door had been pried on and called 911. As other family members arrived she found a back window that had been broken out and then spotted the burglar and confronted him and he ran towards Parkman Street then through a field on the other side of the road.

The woman reported the suspect was a white male in his 20'd with blonde to brownish hair wearing strip pants and had a grey t-shirt wrapped around his hand as if it were bleeding. He was believed to be between 5' 2" and 5' 5" tall and slender.

Sheriff's Deputies and Edgefield Police set up a perimeter in the area as the Sheriff's Bloodhound Team arrived to track the suspect (above). During the search deputies recovered two watches and some other jewelry along the trail the suspect left behind. They were identified by the woman as hers and were returned after being photographed.

A substantial amount of evidence was collected while the scene was being processed by the crime scene investigator, including fingerprints.

Edgefield County Sheriff's Capitan Chris Wash said they have pretty good idea who the suspect is and are in the process of having a photo lineup of possible suspects for the woman to look through in an effort to identify the burglar.

The search was eventually called off after being unable to locate the suspect.
