Edgefield Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty, Dogs Removed

web posted June 18, 2014

EDGEFIELD Police helping a resident to search for a lost dog last week stumbled instead upon four Pit Bull dogs being kept in deplorable conditions at and around a home on the 400 block of Mims Street, leading to the arrest of Shunquez Marquez Lee, 21.

All four animals were heavily chained and "looked sick and very skinny" according to an incident report. None of the dogs had water or shelter. Only one of the dogs had food, but it was spoiled as the dog could not reach it due to the chains, the repot stated.

According to the report, officers told Lee to get the animals food and water and shelter, but he told them he had to go to work. Lee left the home for work without caring for the dogs, at which point police served him with warrants at his job and placed him into custody.

All four dogs were removed from the home and taken to an animal shelter in Aiken County.
