web posted June 18, 2014

EDGEFIELD Police responded to the Edgefield County Hospital's emergency room and reports of a teenager who had been shot.

According to a just released police report, officers arrived and found a 16-year-old Edgefield County teen with a gunshot wound to his left foot. The victim stated he had been in Batesburg when he was shot, but would not provide police with any additional information.

A witness said they had been at the home of a girl called by a nick-name when the incident took place, the report stated. The witness added he could tell from the wound the weapon used was a 9-millimeter handgun, but could provide no details on the shooter's identity.

The victim's mother arrived and told police she had been told her son had shot himself. The teenager was then transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center.

Officers contacted Batesburg-Leesville Police and turned the investigattion over to them. The incident took place the latter part of last week.
