Helicopter Called for Woman with Head Injury

web posted June 23, 2014

EDGEFIELD An Edgefield woman was found unconscious and unresponsive due to a wound to her head at her home on the 600 block of Wigfall Street early Sunday morning. With no Edgefield County EMS units available, a McCormick County EMS unit arrived and called for the patient to be airlifted due to the severity of the injury.

Details were limited as the situation began to unfold around 12:54 am Sunday. McCormick EMS arrived around 1:12 am and asked for air transport to meet them at the hospital to take the injured woman to the Trauma Center in Augusta.

How the injury occurred is unknown. An investigator for the Edgefield Police Department was called to the scene. At least one Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy also responded to the call.

It was never reported if the woman was actually flown from the hospital.

Edgefield Daily will have more on the story as information becomes available.
