Third strike leads repeat drug offender to 13 years in prison

web posted June 26, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Quincy Roosevelt Jennings had his day in court this week to face two drug charges that stemmed from his arrest on February 20, 2006. Jennings was charged with two counts of trafficking or possessing cocaine, third or more offense, making it very unlikely he would be getting out of prison anytime soon.

According to court records Jennings wanted to take the case to a jury trial on Tuesday. With the strong case against him he ended his pursuit of facing a jury and reached a plea agreement at the last minute.

In the agreement Mr. Jennings would plead guilty to one of the two charges and the second charge would be dropped in exchange. He accepted and then faced Circuit Court Judge Cordell Maddox for sentencing.

Judge Maddox did not take long in reaching his decision and gave 28-year-old Jennings thirteen years behind bars in a state prison. Mr. Jennings will get credit for three months he has already served after his arrest.

He was led from the courtroom in handcuffs and taken to the Edgefield County Detention Center to await his transfer to the state Department of Corrections.

The case number is K095038 and can be researched here.
