Butterfly release draws crowd of all ages
web
posted June 27, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Children
and adults gathered
at the Edgefield Library on Thursday to watch the release of
butterflies that were hatched as part of a summer reading project. The
children were provided an extra treat before the release with local
children’s books author Penny Hunt reading her latest book, “The little
white squirrel’s secret”. Dozens of children sat on the floor as Hunt
read. (Pictured Left)
Afterwards children were allowed to sit in a netted area and have
pictures taken with the butterflies. Once all the children had a turn
it was out to the town square for the official release.
The children and
adults gathered around the cages as the lids were
opened and the butterflies took flight in their new found freedom.

Natalie Pulley said the original date for the release was scheduled for
July 3, “They (the butterflies) hatched too soon so we had to move it
up.” The children (and adults) enjoyed the program and Ms. Pulley has
more programs slated for July for children of all ages.
