Edgefield Mayor invites bikers to visit town and county
web
posted July 7, 2009
EDGEFIELD – The Town
of Edgefield and
Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham have been highlighted in Carolina Chrome, a
free biker magazine in the Carolina’s. Edgefield Mayor Ken Durham
invited Tommy Lee, the magazine’s Publisher, to Edgefield for a visit.
The subsequent visit ended in an article that is featured in the July
edition under “Road Trips” with a picture of the county courthouse and
Mayor Durham on his Harley.
Mr. Lee states in the article that biker boots aren’t made for walking,
but “I recommend you put your kickstand down and do some wondering
around.” Lee spends his article flattering the town’s people, the home
cooking, historic locations, and encourages readers to make the road
trip to Edgefield.
Mayor Durham offered a letter welcoming bikers to Edgefield and the
surrounding county for “wonderful riding experiences for bikers. There
are miles of sleepy, meandering, rural roads that wind through unique
communities, peach orchards, horse farms, and Sumter National Forest.”
Durham talks of the many shops and dining available and said, “I look
forward to meeting you during your visit when I can say to you
personally, ‘Welcome to our Town!’”
Carolina Chrome can be found on the web at
http://www.carolinachromemagazine.com
Looking through the magazine with pages of ads for criminal defense
attorneys, biker events, tattoo parlors, repair shops, and biker
“watering holes” - otherwise known as bars - another mention of
Edgefield County was found, Woody’s Bar and Grill located on Highway 25
south near Stephens Road. “#1 late night biker friendly bar. Open till
sunrise - when you finish with the rest come enjoy the best!!!” the ad
reads.
It seems Woody’s will be having to change their ad for the next edition
as the Edgefield County Council will be holding a final reading at
tonight’s monthly meeting on an ordinance to close all establishments
that serve alcohol at 2 am. The ordinance will go into effect in August.
