Edgefield woman reports sexual assault over holiday weekend

web posted July 8, 2008
EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield woman called police after being sexually assaulted in the early morning hours of July 4. The Brooks Street woman told officers when they arrived that she was asleep on the couch when she heard a knock on the door just before 3 am. When she looked out of her window she thought it was her boyfriend at the boor. When she inquired if it was him by name the male answered, “yes, uh huh,” police reports state. It was then that she opened the door and the assault took place.

The woman told police that the man, who at the time she still believed to be her boyfriend, began to fondle her. The two made their way to the nearby kitchen and the woman turned on the light and saw a man she did recognize.

She confronted the man telling him, “You came into my house and did this? I’ll kill you, police reports stated. She then picked up a “big stick” and the man fled. The children in the home also saw the man as he fled out of the door.

The Sheriff’s Bloodhound Team was called to the scene as officers began patrolling the area for the suspect, described as a light-skinned black male, around 5 ‘ 10” tall, approximately 220 pounds with low cut hair. He was wearing a white tank top shirt with a black shirt thrown over the shoulder, dark shorts and white tennis shoes.

Bloodhounds tracked two trails that let to possible suspects that did not fit the description. The victim was treated by EMS on the scene.

The case is currently under investigation by the Edgefield Police Department.
