"Blunt Force Trauma" Cause of Death in Wallace Investigation

web posted July 11, 2014

EDGEFIELD Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett said Thursday that Gregory Wallace died on July 3 from "blunt force trauma" to the head following three months in a coma after being found unconscious and unresponsive at his Currytown Road home on March 30. The "manner of death", however; has not been ruled on at this time. "I just signed the death certificate today," Burnett said.

"Right now there's not enough to rule it homicide," Burnett said, adding that the investigation by the medical examiner's office as well as the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office is still ongoing. "We may never know." There are cases, Burnett said, where the "manner of death" remains unknown even after fully investigating the death.

Edgefield County Chief Investigator Randy Doran said at the time of Wallace's death the case remains under active investigation and that they are looking at possible suspects in the alleged beating. At this time there is not enough evidence for an arrest and the persons of interest have alibis that have checked out.

The family has pushed their own theory and a suspect they believe is responsible for the beating. Something investigators are looking at in the case.

Edgefield Daily has followed the investigation since it began. You can read all previous reports at the links below.
