Four teens accused in strong-armed robbery in Edgefield
web
posted July 14, 2009
EDGEFIELD –
Edgefield Police were called
to a strong-armed robbery around 1 pm Monday afternoon on Simpkins
Street as a 17-year-old teen was leaving the Edgefield Library back
parking lot. According to the victim, a carload of other teens drove up
and one jumped from the car and started attacking him.
As the teen tried to back away and flee the attack, one of the teens
jumped into his car and continued to strike him, causing the victim to
lose control of his car which nearly collided into the wall of the new
Barristers Coffee Shop
across the street (above). Others joined the attack and
stole the victim’s wallet, drivers license, and almost $100 in cash.
Below: The car driven by the suspects
The four teens, all
said to be black males and also 17-years-old, fled
the scene up the ally next to the library and disappeared on the town
square, leaving their car behind, when a nearby Sheriff’s Deputy
arrived on the scene.
As the investigation continued police were able to obtain the identity
of two of the suspects and were seeking to identify the other two. Two
of the suspected were described as wearing a purple shirt and blue jean
shorts and a second was said to be wearing a white t-shirt. No other
information was available on the other two involved.
The victim had bloodstains on his shirt he said came from a bloody nose
caused in the altercation.
The mother of one of
the suspects arrived and said her son was supposed
to take her car and get some gas for her. She was cooperating with
police and the car the four suspects were driving was released to her
at the scene. Found in the back seat of the car was baseball bats
(left),
though none were allegedly used in the attack.
The case is currently under investigation.
