Kent’s Corner site of armed robbery Friday night
web
posted July 19, 2008
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield’s Kent’s Corner was
the scene of a daring armed robbery just after 10 pm Friday night when
two masked men entered the store and produced a handgun demanding money
and was given an undisclosed amount of cash before the two fled the
store on foot.
A witness saw a burgundy, regular cab, 1998 or 1999 Ford F150 pickup
truck that was parked behind a nearby business. Investigators found
fresh tire tracks behind the business and the bloodhound team tracked
the two suspects to the same location before losing the trail.
The suspects are described as black males, both wearing all black and
masks, one being around 5’ 10” and the other around 5’ 7” tall and both
weighing approximately 180 pounds. Only one of the two men produced a
gun according to early information available. The gun was said to be a
black semi-automatic of an unknown caliber.
Deputies and local police from Edgefield and Johnston patrolled the
surrounding area covering all possible escape routes including two
Mile Road, Highway 23, Star Road, Edgefield Road, and Woodyard Road but
did not spot a vehicle matching the description given.
All surrounding counties were advised to be on the look out for the
burgundy Ford truck as the investigation continues. The crime scene was
still being processed at press time and no further information was
available. Investigators were able to gather evidence at the crime
scene that could help identify the suspects.
Anyone that may have been in the area and saw a burgundy or red Ford
F150 is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office at 637-5337
with information. You can remain anonymous.
We will continue to follow this breaking story as more information
become available.
