Caller Witnesses Crash of Suspected DUI Driver

web posted July 25, 2014

EDGEFIELD A caller to Edgefield County 911 Dispatchers was following a suspected drunk driver on Highway 25 north just before 5 pm Thursday and passing on information that was passed on to deputies trying to intercept the car. As the driver crossed the Turkey Creek bridge he swerved into the concrete railing of the bridge and kept driving south, running cars off the road.

The caller was able to give a vehicle description and the tag number to dispatchers and a short time later reported the driver had lost control and the car had rolled over. The driver left the 911 line open, but quit talking to dispatchers to provide information on any injuries from the crash.

A deputy arrived on the scene minutes later and reported the driver was trapped inside of the car, which was laying on its side. A Greenwood County EMS was on the scene and working to gain access to the driver. Edgefield Firefighters were called to aid in extracting the injured driver.

Edgefield County EMS arrived on the scene and transported the driver from the scene. There was no information on the driver's condition at this writing.
