Massey makes it official

web posted July 28, 2007
EDGEFIELD – Shane Massey made his candidacy for the District 25 State Senate seat official when he presented Edgefield County Republican Party Chairman Ralph McFarland his check to file as a candidate. Mr. Massey said, “Ralph, I’m delighted to give you this check and file as a Republican in the special election for State Senate.”

Mr. Massey spent time on the sidewalk of the Edgefield Town Square meeting with residents and then ventured inside the Ten Governor’s Café to meet with diners. Afterwards he met with Mr. McFarland and filled out his paperwork to file as a Republican.

Campaign literature Mr. Massey presented to voters stated he is running to “Shake up Columbia”.  Massey says he has three ways to do just that, restore accountability by cutting spending, restructuring and cleaning up state government, defending family values, and strengthen our economy by “slashing taxes”, concentrating on education, fighting illegal immigration, and creating jobs.

State Rep. Bill Clyburn has said he intends to file as a Democrat and North Augusta’s Bill Hixon has expressed an interest in running as a republican.

The primary election will be held September 18, 2007. The deadline for filing closes August 6.
