Edgefield Man Arrested After Report of Shots Fired from Car

web posted July 29, 2014

EDGEFIELD An Edgefield woman called 911 to report being on the phone with a 23-year-old man that told her he was driving on Bauskett Street and the occupant of a black Honda behind him was firing shots at him. The woman lost contact with the victim and was unable to get him back on the phone. Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies patrolled the area and was unable to locate the victim or the other vehicle at the time and an investigator arrived to speak with the caller.

During the investigation, the identity of the alleged shooter was determined to be Maurice Deantre Williams, 26, of Dogwood Lane in Edgefield. Upon arrival at his home, the black Honda was parked outside, but no one would come to the door.

All information gathered by deputies was turned over to the investigator on the scene. A report on the incident did not mention the victim being injured during the alleged shooting.

Williams was later taken into custody and charged with assault and battery in the first degree and booked at the Edgefield County Detention Center on Sunday. He was released on a $10,000 surety bond on Monday.

No court date was available since the matter has been referred to General Sessions Court, online court records show.

A request for a booking photo from the Sheriff's Office was again not provided by press time.
