Deportation possibly sought for Mexican National for forged ID

web posted July 31, 2007
EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield Police Department has arrested Oscar R. Sosa, 26, of Graniteville, and may file to have Mr. Sosa deported after a traffic stop on Buncombe Street Sunday night. While an Edgefield Police Officer was operating a radar check on Buncombe Street he observed a grey Plymouth Neon traveling 49 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone and initiated a traffic stop.

After stopping the car the officer asked Mr. Sosa for his driver’s license and car information. Mr. Sosa, according to police reports, handed over all the information but presented a fake state ID card and a Mexican ID.

Mr. Sosa told the officer, reports indicate, that he did not have a driver’s license because, “the state would not give him one.”

Mr. Sosa was arrested and transported to the Edgefield County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of speeding 49 mph in a 35 mph zone, no SC driver’s license, and providing falsified or fraudulent state ID. The latter charge is a felony and can be used to trigger federal authorities to act on a deportation.

A felony warrant was issued on Monday for Mr. Sosa, who is currently being held at the Detention Center.
