"That Darn Cat" returns to Downtown Edgefield

web posted July 31, 2009
EDGEFIELD – “That Darn Cat” returns to Edgefield for the final installment of the 2009 Downtown Drive-In summertime movie series. Bring your family, your neighbors, and your friends and gather around the Edgefield Square Friday, August 14th  for the showing of the 1997 movie “That Darn Cat” which was filmed right here in historic downtown Edgefield. This classic Walt Disney Productions film is a story about bank robbers, a kidnapping and a mischievous cat. The film was based on the book “Undercover Cat” by Gordon and Mildred Gordon and was originally released in December 1965.

In this 1997 remake of the film, actress Christina Ricci takes over the role originated by Hayley Mills in 1965. Ricci plays the part of Patti, a small-town teenager whose assertive tomcat, “D.C.”, unravels a kidnapping plot -- much to the surprise of the clumsy kidnappers!   This fun-filled family comedy is a favorite of children and adults alike and is sponsored by Edgefield Daily (www.edgefielddaily.com) and organized by the efforts of the Edgefield Community Development Association and the Town of Edgefield.  .

Activities will begin at 7:30pm with a special “a-CAT-emy” Award for the best cat costume.  All ages are welcome to participate!  The ever popular face painting booth will be set up, so be sure to stop by and get your cat whiskers painted by Edgefield’s talented artist Pamela Moore of Paperwhite’s.   Also, on hand this evening will be the “All God’s Creatures” cat adoption booth with adorable and loveable kittens that are looking for a good family to love them.

Bring your family, your chairs, and your blanket and enjoy another fun movie night under the stars.  The movie will begin at dusk (approximately 9:00pm) with the Wachovia Bank Building again being the movie backdrop.  Concessions will be available for purchase and our friends at Carolina First will be making those great coke floats that we all loved so much from last summer.    Park Row Market as well as the Edgefield Billiard Parlor will be open for business for those of you that want to have a bite to eat before the start of the movie.

The Edgefield Police Department will ensure that the event remains a safe and friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy.  Please – no pets or unattended children.  In case of rain, the event will relocate to the old Edgefield Gym on Church Street just down from the Edgefield First Baptist Church.

The Edgefield Community Development Association would like to pay special thanks to Edgefield Daily for sponsoring the August Downtown Drive-in event.  We’d also like to thank Pamela Moore of Paperwhites for coordinating the children’s activities, the National Wild Turkey Federation for supplying the movie projection equipment, and all those in the community that have contributed their time, effort, and ideas to make this event another memorable evening for the Town of Edgefield.
