Tow companies pay respect to fellow businessman

web posted August 4, 2006

EDGEFIELD – Area tow truck drivers gathered today to say farewell to one of their own. Michael D. (Big Mike) Rushton, 47, who died Monday July 31, 2006, at his residence, was buried Thursday at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. With over a dozen tow trucks leading the procession with lights flashing in honor of Mr. Rushton, the half-mile long line of cars made their way to the gravesite. Mr. Rushton was owner and operator of Rushton Towing Service.

In addition to friends and family, several law enforcement personnel attended the service.

Often times tow truck drivers are seen as the ones who charge too much to tow a car, but they are seen as heroes when it is 3 am and a motorist is broken down or involved in a collision. One law enforcement officer said, “Mike was one of the good guys.”

EdgefieldDaily.com sends our most sincere condolences to the Rushton family in their loss. Indeed, “Big Mike” will be missed. May God rest his soul and grant comfort to his immediate and extended family.
