County Councilman Ashcraft holds next Town Hall meeting in Edgefield Wednesday

web posted August 17, 2009
EDGEFIELD – Edgefield County Councilman Rodney Ashcraft will be holding another his Town Hall Meetings in his district on Wednesday, August 19. Councilman Ashcraft said he wanted to invite his constituents to come and voice their concerns and opinions on issues involving the county council in a free flow exchange of ideas. Ashcraft said the only way for him to properly represent his district is to hear from voters directly.

The meeting will be held at the Edgefield County Council Chambers on Jeter Street (Behind the courthouse) at 6 pm and the public is invited to attend. County Council Chairman Monroe Kneece has said he plans to attend the meeting.

The first town hall meeting was held last week at the Mt. Vintage Town Center where almost everyone in attendance voiced opposition of the purchase of the Calliham property, pleasure with the resignation of County Administrator John Pettigrew, and complaint of a "good old boy" system that they said remains in power in Edgefield County politics.

Councilman Ashcraft will most likely face a more diverse group in the Town of Edgefield. The town would reap benifits from the purchase whereas the County would see the property removed from the tax rolls and incur a debt that is estimated anywhere between $1.2 and $1,7 million.
