Extension Office Welcomes New Employee

web posted August 22, 2014

EDGEFIELD –  Gary Coleman has joined the Clemson Extension Staff as the Area Agent for Livestock and Forages. A native of Saluda County, Gary grew up in Ward, son of Johnny and Gale Martin. He graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal and Veterinary Science. He has won numerous awards and has been featured in several publications such as Clemson World Magazine.

He was named one of five honorees in Progressive Farmers Magazine: American Best Young Farmers and Ranchers. He has represented South Carolina at several conferences and conventions. He is a member of the National Cattlemen Beef Association and the Piedmont Farmer Co-op.

Gary has a cow-calf farm in Anderson County and also operates a hormone/antibiotic free meat (goat) packing company.

Gary is excited to be working with the farmers of Edgefield County. Plans are to contact as many farmers as possible and reestablish the Edgefield Cattlemen’s Association.

Gary encourages the community to call him with questions about cattle and all ruminants. He has already identified several workshop and courses associated with cattle/ruminants, contact the office for more information.

Gary’s phone number is: 864.554.4504 or call the Clemson Extension Office at: 637.3161. We welcome Gary and look forward to working with him.
